Week 11: M2s storm back to form

WH&E M2 7 : 2 St Albans M9

M2s faced St Albans 9s having been comprehensively defeated by MDBA the previous week. Winchmore got off to a good start and caused the opposition problems with old boy Mark Gray looking a constant threat up top.

In such a high scoring game (Rob Dowling x 2, Dom, Ellis, Peter, Robert Ulph and Mark Gray) the two standout goals (goals that I can remember) were…

Rob Dowling’s fantastic break into the D from the right side firing his shot straight into the keepers pads the ball rebounded to Mark Gray who turned the ball in on the volley with a super reaction finish drawing a round of applause from the spectators.

Peter Morton – Midway through the second half the ball was deflected high in the air towards the far post where Peter put it in with a fantastic touch from above his head. The goal was made all the more special as Peter described it as his first goal in 20 years of hockey!

The final score finished Winchmore 7 St Albans 2.

A fantastic team performance in what was a comprehensive win.

MOTM: Asher – A fantastically mature performance causing the St Albans defence trouble throughout.
DOTD: Rob Dowling – Scored one of his goals with the back of his stick.

WH&E M1 2 : 0  Hertford M2

In a tight game, Winchmore came out on top with 2 goals from Colin Foad in the last 10 mins to secure all 3 points. Another win for the 1s who are steadily moving up the table after a slow start to the season (just for a change!).

WH&E L2 0 : 1 Harrow L3

A game of two halves as Winchmore looked the more likely to score in the first half, creating several chances that just couldn’t be finished – leading scorer Abbi coming close with two good efforts narrowly missing the target.

In the second half it was Harrow who seized the initiative, pressing forward and winning several penalty corners – a deflected shot from one striking Lorna on the face mask on the goal line, saving a goal! However, it was another penalty corner that settled the game with a clean strike from the top of the D beating keeper and defence to give Harrow the win.

A close game that could have gone either way, but lots of good performances across the Winchmore team.

WH&E L1 0 : 0  West Hampstead L2

A draw. Nothing happened. (well no match report was written anyway!)
