Week 10 again – M2s and L2s on the rise, L1s on the fall

After the cold snap before Christmas, the postponed league games were rescheduled for 7th January with our L1s, L2 and M2s all in action.

WH&E M2 3 : 2 PHC Chiswick M6

It was the first game Wayne captained as the ever-present Guy was unavailable, but the squad looked very healthy with some extra ammunition as Colin and Jack joined up with the team.

We were off to a fantastic start (not!) as the opposition put a cross ball to the right-side of the pitch which looked like an easy clearance with both John and Ellis there. A bit of fumbling around and the Chiswick player slugged the ball in between John’s legs. We didn’t let this early goal get us down and around half-way through the first half Colin did what he does best and slotted home. Half-time 1-1.

The second half started again with some WH&E DOMinance as Dom found himself controlling the midfield with Tom and Jake putting in great shifts in front of him. It wasn’t too long before Jack converted a penalty corner with a solid strike in the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

However, it wouldn’t be WH&E if we didn’t let our opposition have a golden chance though after not converting more of our dominance. Anyway, the oppo found themselves in the D, a lifted shot later that rebounded off John’s pads was swiftly converted by a stunning Calum header on the near post 😂. Own goal, 2-2.

It looked like it wouldn’t be our day as the team had plenty of shots but couldn’t convert. However Colin got bored of providing hope to the oppo and decided to score again to make the score 3-2 after a fine move up the right between Tom and Jack. As it got later on in the game, our dominance slipped slightly as it became a bit more of an even contest that we managed to see out.

MotM: Tom. Was up and down the pitch and didn’t put a foot (or stick) wrong.

DotD: Ellis. Wearing a hat. Yep.

WH&E L2 5 : 3 Imperial College SM W1

Two goals apiece from Kareen and Charlotte, plus one from Gemma were enough to despatch a below strength Imperial College team who battled bravely to score 3 goals and keep things interesting.

WH&E L1 2 : 3 West Hampstead W3

A goal each from Bethany and Kylie, not quite enough to overcome a strong West Hampstead team.

No game for the M1s this week.
