Men’s 2s lead the way with 5-0 win

Week three and the Men’s 2s continued their fantastic start to the season with a convincing win against Stevenage 6. The match was played in the right spirit at a comfortable tempo with plenty of WHE possession paying rich dividends. There was a clean sheet for goalie Rob and goals from Leo, Joe S, Thomas C and two from Colin Angel – his 568th and 569th goals for the club! Thanks go to Dom, Joe and their pitch side support team, directing field players and managing the substitutes! Next week it’s an away game at Shefford & Sandy.

The Ladies’ 2s rocked their first actual match of the season scoring twice (twice!) away against an army of Hampstead and Westminster players, they had 16 to WHE’s 9! Goals going to Kate Smith and newbie Josie, who scored an amazing scoop into the top left-hand corner of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper looking befuddled. Having played so well, fighting hard for the balls, never giving up and linking their passes beautifully, their lack of match fitness and a few “unfortunate” decisions led to a less than desirable final score. Massive thank you to Lorna who stepped up in fluorescent pink to play kicking back. Next week is their first home game of the season against BA Hayes.

The Men’s 1s had their first home game of the season and it was their first time with the luxury of substitutes. A big bonus saw Joe Turmaine being able to play for part of the game. A strong performance with lovely passages of play saw them dominate large parts of the game. Unfortunately, a lucky break from a short corner deflection was followed up by Rickmansworth and proved decisive. Even the opposition said they were lucky during the handshakes! So, they’re frustrated by the scoreline but buoyed by the performance. Saturday brings an away game at Potters Bar.

It’s a win, a loss and now a draw for the Ladies’ 1s, who spent their game defending against some really “enthusiastic” Hampstead and Westminster players. In a pretty even match, no one scored for either side. It could have gone their way if chances had been taken and the umpire hadn’t blown too soon for that penalty corner (his words, haha!). The Hampstead and Westminster keeper just stopped the ball crossing the line and 1s goalie Chris Putt made some fantastic saves, whilst Beth Deane also saved one off the line. Man of the match was Chloe Purchase for her relentless effort on the pitch despite being ill, special mention goes to new player Rachelle who had a great first game. Next week is #DerbyDay at home against The Enemy!
