Stuart Carrick on International Duty

At least one of the men got to play some hockey this summer!

The club are very proud of Stuart Carrick, our Mens’ 1s captain, who played for Scotland in the Masters European Championship in The Netherlands this summer.

Scotland had a challenging first game against the top team in Europe at the moment, The Netherlands, and although they lost, they fought well and even got some nice compliments from the Dutch crowd. They went on to a disappointing draw with Germany after letting the equaliser in at the death but made it through to the quarter finals where they faced England. They went 3 down to England in the first half and despite getting 2 back in the 3rd quarter couldn’t find another.

This left Scotland fighting for 5th. They first met Italy who also had a (former) Winchmore Hill & Enfield player, Lorenzo Giunta, in the line up. Scotland won 5-1 despite Stuart’s goal being given as a short corner! In their final game, Scotland beat current home nations champions Ireland 2-1 in a very close match to finish 5th overall.
